Bartlett woman faces multiple charges after hitting motorcyclist

One major cause of traffic accidents is drunken driving. The majority of Illinois residents understand that they cannot consumer alcohol and then drive because the drug impairs their driving abilities. Anyone who plans to consume alcohol away from home, should assign a designated driver or take a taxicab home. Unfortunately, some people still drive while intoxicated, which means they compromise other people's safety and increase the chances of an accident.

Such was the case recently of an 18-year-old Bartlett woman who allegedly drove after drinking and collided with a motorcycle in Pingree Grove. According to reports, the woman was traveling on Route 20 around 7 p.m. when she crossed into traffic and hit the motorcyclist head-on, critically injuring the rider. The woman allegedly continued driving for one-quarter of a mile before running into a ditch. She allegedly attempted to flee across a field but was caught and arrested. The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Court records show the Bartlett woman's license was suspended in 2013 following a DUI conviction. She has been charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, drunken driving and other criminal charges.

Negligence in the form of drunken driving has been alleged as the cause of the recent accident. The motorcyclist may consider filing a personal injury claim if he wants to recover damages from the driver at fault. If the presumed negligent driver is charged, the victim can use the charges and any conviction in filing a claim to show the defendant was negligent. This could result in compensation to cover any expenses, losses or damages associated with the crash.

Throughout Illinois, a person who sustains injuries in a drunk driving accident can file a claim against a defendant or negotiate for a fair and just settlement. In either case, the amount should be enough to cover all losses, including medical expenses.
