Trucks can be seen every day on roads and highways across Illinois transporting and delivering various goods. Truck drivers are professionals who undergo considerable training before they are allowed to operate on the open road. They are expected to exercise due care at all times while driving because collisions between trucks and other vehicles can have devastating consequences.
On Jan. 27, a tollway worker and a state trooper pulled over to help the driver of a broken-down semi truck on Interstate 88 in Aurora. A second semi truck crashed into the state trooper's vehicle, driving it into the tollway worker's truck, igniting a fiery blast. The tollway worker died at the scene, and the trooper remains in critical condition.
