It’s summer time and with the sunny warm weather comes more outdoor activities. Kids home from school will ride their bikes and play basketball, while others may go on picnics or walks. One thing that probably isn’t on these individuals’ minds, though, is truck accidents. Yet, for one Chicago-area family, the devastating dangers posed by these massive vehicles recently became all too real.

According to reports, a 13-year-old boy was recently killed when a dump truck struck him. Police say the child was riding his bike and entered a crosswalk to cross the street when the truck made a right turn onto the road and hit him. The child was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was issued a citation for failing to exercise due care. Police, as is standard in these kinds of accidents, also took a blood sample from the driver to test for drugs and alcohol, neither of which is suspected to be a factor in the accident.

The truck driver has been immensely distraught since the accident. Yet, this man’s devastation does nothing for the boy’s family, who now must cope with the emotional damage unfairly caused to them. Additionally, they might have incurred unexpected and undeserved medical expenses and funeral costs. Though it may be difficult for this family, and others similarly situated, to think about, taking legal action may be one way to ease their pain and suffering and recover the compensation they deserve.

Pursuing litigation can be challenging, no matter the time. But it can be especially difficult after losing a loved one. Yet, qualified legal professionals stand ready to help those in need to fight for accountability and compensation for their damages.
